Jira and Monday.com have taken up space as excellent project management tools and complement each other in several aspects. You can integrate them together so that you can enjoy the best of both worlds. While both rank as the best project management software tools, they are meant for different audiences.
What is Jira?
Jira started as an issue and defect tracking tool but later evolved as a work management and agile platform, just like PPM Express. It offers both Kanban and Scrum boards. Jira Software Server also allows you to create custom workflows for use in software development tasks. Jira’s work management platform provides visibility and transparency across team members.
What is Monday.com?
Monday.com is a modular work management platform that can be customized to meet the needs of any organization. It can be integrated with multiple tools and apps to enable you to get the functionality that you want, even when it is not indicated on the platform itself. You can try its free plan project management product with your Zoho projects, but the standard plan has more features.
What You Get by Integrating them
When you use monday.com Jira integration, you get the power to move tasks seamlessly from one board to another. This saves you time so that you can work on other tasks. You are also able to set up some automated imports and exports, although you would need to experiment and try out a few alternatives.
You are also able to coordinate delivery timelines and calendars, enabling everyone to see an overview of activities. Jira integration likewise allows you to communicate the progress made on Monday.com projects to Jira users. Finally, you can manage and report team workloads across platforms and determine their capacity.
You would rather have Jira show up on the Monday.com boards than the other way around. It is faster and easier to do it this way. In this case, you will have Monday.com as the main control board. Monday.com is a versatile project management tool that integrates with all kinds of work management tools such as Google Drive, Slack, and, of course, Jira.
The integration process should take about five minutes. It takes just a few clicks to get the entire thing done and does not require any specialized knowledge. You can get started with a free trial account. However, we recommend that you buy a subscription so that you can use all the features.
Steps for Integrating Jira Account to Monday Work Management
Visit Your Jira Profile
Start by logging in to your Jira platform and getting hold of the API token. You will find it by clicking the profile option at the top right of your screen.
Click “Manage Your Account.”
Under your profile, click “Manage Your Account” just beneath the portrait.
Click on Security.
Scroll through the account management features and locate “Security.” Click it and then look for the “Create and manage API tokens” feature. Click on it too.
Create the API Token
You will get a button asking you to create an API token. Click it to get a pop-up window where you label the token as “Monday.com integration.”
Copy the Token
Once you are done creating the token, click “copy” before you close the window. Otherwise, you will have to create another one.
Integrate with Your Monday.com Board
Open your Monday.com account and head to the specific board that you wish to integrate with Jira. Once the board is open, locate the word “Integrate” in the right-hand top corner of the screen. You can connect Jira with as many Mondy.com boards as you wish.
Search for Jira
Upon hitting the integration button, you will be taken to a search window where you will have to look for Jira among the options provided. These options are all the tools that you can integrate with the platform. Monday integrations allow you to work with any tool you need for your workflow.
Select Jira
Click Jira from the options to be taken to a window where you can create automations for the platform. Monday.com calls them “recipes,” as they are a set sequence of events and show how workflows run.
Select appropriate recipes
For this tutorial, we will go for the recipe that allows any items created on Monday.com boards to show up on Jira. From here, you will be taken to the Jira Cloud account login page, where you will fill in the required details. Paste the API token you copied from Jira into the token box in the middle. You may also use the Tray platform to complete Monday.com integrations.
Set up the recipe
Check any options you would like reflected in the Jira account on the Monday.com board. There are custom fields and items that you can create for any recipe. Try to keep it simple and straightforward.
Once done, exit the menu to be taken back to the Monday.com board. You will notice that a new column has popped up with the name Jira on your Monday time. This allows you to see what is imported into the integrated Jira account. Monday.com has a superior customer support and good user reviews, making it the ultimate work management tool for any organization.
